Professional Speakers are people who make a living, or at least a substantial part of their living from speaking in front of groups of people. The craft of speaking is different to training or making sales presentations. Professional speaking requires specific competencies and the PSA is an organisation that can help you develop the skills and learn how to make a business out of speaking.

Membership Grades
The PSA is a professional body and as such welcomes people that are professional speakers. However, we recognise that some people are not yet Professional Speakers but have a desire to develop themselves to be one. Therefore we accept these people as Candidates of the PSA.
Candidates are not members of the PSA but but they have access to the resources and networks in the PSA. Candidates pay £150 per annum and is open to anyone wishing to develop a professional speaking career and who intends to become a full Member within two years. Members of the PSA is £225 per annum and is available for anyone who has already established a speaking business and is regularly making fee paid speaking engagements. To be accepted as a Member, a person has prove that they are a professional speaker by listing at least 10 paid speaking engagements in 12 months. To show professional competence, they also need to demonstrate their abilities against the first four competencies of a professional speaker. These are: Professional Awareness; Topic Development; Presenting and Performing; PR, Sales and Marketing. To join as a Member see the Member Information Page.
Affiliate membership at is available at £150 per annum to people and businesses who work within or associated to the speaking business. These include bureaux, agents, video production companies and so forth. They are provided with a web site page so their services can be easily identified by members. In all the above cases a joining fee of £100 is payable.
A Fellow of the PSA is a much higher qualifying standard. This level of membership is only available to members on proof of ability against all eight competencies of a professional speaker and proof of an income from speaking of at least £50,000 in the two years prior to applying. Fellows are also voted in by their peers. The letters FPSA provide recognition of professional excellence in this industry.
